This is a great trip.

Having been to Egypt, I would totally recommend the following trip.

The trip I listed below is going to happen October, 2009. Having been to Egypt, I would totally recommend this trip because it hits all the best places to see in Egypt, and incorporates food, culture, and history! It's guided so you wouldn't have to deal with all the pains I did when I traveled in Egypt on my own time. It's a good price (compared to what I payed) and it benefits a great organization.

Day 1: October 6

Arrival and Nile River dinner cruise in Cairo

Day 2: October 7

Great Pyramids at Giza; shopping and modern Egyptian cuisine: pastries, ice cream, dinner at modern restaurant

Day 3: October 8

Old Cairo: ancient Coptic churches, synagogues, and mosques; visit a HANDS-supported development project; guided tour of the famous Egyptian Museum; famous Cairo cafes; lunch and dinner at Cairo's best restaurants

Day 4: October 9

Alexandria: the Mediterranean Coast; Cleopatra's Beach; seafood, Greek-influenced foods, and dessert

Day 5: October 10

Alexandia: Montaza Palace, gardens, famous library, religious sites; shop and eat on Nabi Daniel Street

Day 6: October 11

Luxor: felucca (sailboat) ride on the Nile, gardens, open air markets; Karnak Temple night show; local dinner

Day 7: October 12

Luxor: Nubian Village Museum, Hatshepsut's Temple, demonstration making Egyptian sweets, coffee or shisha

Day 8: October 13

Sharm el-Sheikh: markets, beach time and reef snokeling, dinner and performance of "1001 Nights"

Day 9: October 14

Sinai: St. Catherine's Monastery, Mt. Sinai; lunch in Nuweiba, beach time; shopping in Dahab

Day 10: October 15

Cairo: Ancient mosques, cafes; shopping in famous Khan al-Khalili market; the Citatel and Mohammad Ali Mosque; dinner and show in al-Azhar Park

Day 11: October 16

Return to the US

Cost of trip is $5,100 for double room or $5,340 for single room. ($500 of each person’s fee is a tax-deductible contribution to support HANDS’ work with poor communities in Egypt).

Price includes airfare from JFK to Cairo and return, transportation within Egypt; three meals a day within Egypt; accommodation in Egypt; entry fees to sites; guided tours; speakers’ fees. (Note: flights can be arranged from airports other than JFK, but costs may vary.)
